“Les Racines du Chaos” was a 2 cd compilation released by Deviance records to celebrate their 100th release.

Deviance also c-released “Anarchie in Leuven” in 2017.

“Les Racines dus Chaos” contains a lot of unreleased or live tracks by bands who are “related” to the label. It comes with a booklet, a Deviance-sticker and a Deviance-bottle opener.

2017 Ulrikes Dream – “20 jaar Ulrikes Dream” (cd-r)

For the 20th birthday of the band a compilation cd-r was released. It was given away for free to the first 50 people who visted the concert in JH Sojo.

The cd-r contains tracks from all line-ups, often unreleased material or live recordings. Hans cleaned up the audio and some funny samples were added. Erik made the cover art. The front has the Ulrikes Dream logo surrounded by barbed wire and the words “zonder wetten, zonder heersers” (lyrics taken from “Anarchie in Leuven”), the inside has a picture of a James Bond– alarm clock.

In 2019 Underground Departement published the tracks via YouTube. Find the playlist here.

Track 1-4 were recorded during the recording of “Anarchie in Leuven” in 2017. Guest vocals were done by Tim (The End of Ernie), Robin (the SideFX), Brian (Freaks and Nerds) and Yorick (KillTura, Sunny After Moon). Line-up: Hans, Erik, Selle.

Track 5 (“Overruled“) was recorded in Hélécine in 2006 by Stef.  Line-up: Kim, Hans, Erik, Selle. Notice that Selle plays an electronic drum on this recording.

Track 6-7 (“Massacre” and “Phone”) were recorded in Hever at Bruno’s place in 2004. “Massacre” was originally called “The Leuven Hippie Massacre” and the chords of “Phone” are based on Erik’s Phone number, mostly. line-up: Saar, Wannes, Hans, Daan, Anton, Erik.

Track 8 is “De Oorlog”. It was recorded in JH Clockwork in Leuven in 1998 and was taken from the demo “Burn burn burn the European Swastika“. It has Hans on vocals. Line-up: Hans, Erik, Anton.

Track 9-11: Recorded live during Paranoia-fest in Dresden on 30-08-2014. Line-up:Kim, Hans, Erik, Selle.

Track 12-13: Recorded live in La Zone, Liege on 05-02-2000. Line-up: Sapé, Magalie, Hans, Daan, Erik, Anton.

Track 14-15: recorded live in De Onderbroek in Nijmegen on 20-02-1999. Line-up: Jeroen, Sapé, Hans, Daan, Erik, Anton

“Anarchie in Leuven” is recorded in november 2016 in Majestic Studio in Hever by Tikke. It was mastered by Uwe Teichert (Elektropolis). The drawing for the artwork was made by Steven S. All photographs were taken by Peter W.

Fun facts:

• Like on every UD release there is a James Bond reference. This time the catalog number of the record is UD007.
• A videoclip was made for “Anarchie in Leuven”  using footage shot (by Ivo P.) during the show Ulrikes Dream played at the Rock Café in Leuven.
• A videoclip was made for “Stem op mij”. It was released on oktober 7th 2008, a week before the elections in Belgium and Ulrike Meinhof’s birthday.
• The album was “reviewed” by Didi de Paris in Deze Week Leuven 6-09-2017.

• Ulrikes Dream was interviewed about “Anarchie in Leuven” in Het Nieuwsblad (28-07-2017) and De Standaard (2-08-2017).
• About three years after it’s release the band made a promo-video for the album.

 

2000 “Defense” (compilation)

“Defense” was a three cassette compilation released on Crucial Blast Ltd, a Maryland (US) based indie label specializing in left-field metal, noise rock, experimental heaviness and dark ambience.

The compilation featured bands like Autoritär, Optimus Prime, Cripple Bastards, Head Hits Concrete, Drunken Orgy of Destruction, Kung Fu Rick, Godstomper and Ulrikes Dream.

1998 – Ulrikes Dream – “Burn the European Swastika”

This demotape was recorded in march 1998 in the cellar of JH Clockwork (Boekhandelstraat 3) in Leuven by Wim VG using a 4-track recorder. It was accompanied by a very DIY booklet with some background information. You can find all te artwork for the booklet here.
The recording quality and mix were far from optimal and since it was the band’s first recording the end result was very crappy.
The artwork was a drawing by Steven S. whose work is also featured on “Squattus Ex Machina” and who also did the cover for “Anarchie in Leuven“.

Trivia

• “Free beer detector” is the only instrumental song Ulrikes Dream has ever recorded.
• “Licensed to Kill” was re-recorded for the first full lengt “Van 9 tot 5” in 2011.
• “De oorlog was eigenlijk maar een grapje” was a song in Dutch sung by Hans. In 2016 all Ulrikes Dream songs are in Dutch and they’re all sung by Hans.
• “Skatophobia” is rewritten and rerecorded as “Zet je baas op straat” in 2016 for “Anarchie in Leuven“.

2003 – v/a – “Unscene effort II”

“Unscene effort 2” was a compilation released in the US on orange vinyl only by Sick of Talk records. It featured unknown bands like The Clap, Act of Martyr and also Ulrike’s Dream. The album was reviewed in “Slug and Lettuce” nr 76 that appeared in the summer of 2003.

Ulrike’s Dream provided two tracks: “Parasite Royale” and “Kill SABAM“.

2006, v/a – “Squattus Ex Machina”

“Squattus Ex Machina” was released as a celebration of the 5th birthday of the “Villa Squattus Dei“-squat in Leuven and the 10th edition of the anticommercial “Boycot Marktrock“-festival. The bands on the compilation are bands that have played in Villa Squattus Dei.

The album was released on cd and came with a booklet (about 50 pages) with background info about the squat, direct action, the festival and the bands.

Ulrike’s Dream has a track on this album. It is called “Metallic Introduction To A Life Of Destruction“.  The song would be rewritten and has been played by the band as an instrumental intro for many years. A version with Dutch lyrics, about the Villa Squattus Dei,  is recorded for “Anarchie in Leuven“.

2000 – Ulrikes Dream – “If it leads… it bleeds”

“If it leads… it bleeds” was released as an ep. It had sixteen songs on it. It was recorded at Bruno’s place. And the mixing was done by the band. It were the first experiments with “recording it all the DIY way“. The artwork turned out to be not that great because it was delivered to the printing company as a bad print from an old and crappy printer.
It was the band’s first “real” record. And it was enthusiastically spread and shared with the world. The release party was on 30-06-2001 in Villa Squattus Dei.
After this recording Jeroen and Sapé quit the band and Magalie and Saar took over the vocals.
